Why Mars? And not our home planet Earth…
Humanity has achieved great heights in Space Science. And, over the past decades, lots of researches are being carried out in the exploration of Space, in search of Life beyond the Earth, and much more by various agencies and organizations across the globe.
One of the most interesting topics to talk about is getting humanity settled on planet Mars. Ever thought why humans are more interested in studying Mars and spending lots of money and time on the same instead of improving life and focusing more on the environmental conditions of our home planet Earth? There’s a reason for the same let’s explore it…
The main reason behind this is the extinction of humanity due to the Expansion Of the Sun. We will talk about this later… But first, let’s have a look at our Solar System. Planet Earth is in 3rd position and Mars at the 4th in our Solar System. Sun, our powerhouse, situated at the center of the Solar System is a star and according to the researchers, such stars have limited life and when they are about to die, they expand! Also, here, comes a concept called “Habitable Zone” which in short is the zone in any planetary system which is adaptable to humans, i.e. it’s not too cold (considering the temperature of empty space) and not too hot(at a safe distance from the stars like Sun).
So, as per the scientists, the Sun is a little less than halfway through its lifetime and will last another 5 billion years or so before it dies… So due to the expansion of the Sun, as now earth is in the habitable zone of our solar system, so would the planet Mars in the near future.
The solution here is that humans need to become multi-planetary if they have to be safe from extinction. And that’s the reason many space organizations are working hard to get humans habitual on the planet Mars… You can refer to the below articles to get to know more about the same!
Also, Elon Musk, CEO and chief engineer of SpaceX and NASA have got a great plan to get humans to the planet Mars. You can check out and read the same below.
I hope you have got to learn something new from this article. I will be writing more on different topics related to space and science in near future. Stay tuned!
